The Wealth Had a Weight

He asked her if she knew what would last over a hundred years.
She said that she'd been searching and all she found were common fears.
Everyone she said that she asked said they were afraid to die.
"Little did they know," she said, "they had been dead their whole lives."
Half a century old and they felt they'd been told lies from the beginning, all their lives collecting beads on a worn down string.
They were efficient, yet impatient in their modern homes.
No time for conversation, only time to be alone.
Since when had all their wealth been measure in bills?
They felt like little boats with too much wind in their sails.
They said, "there's so much flowing through me, I can't decipher the foolish from the wise!"
The wealth had a weight and they lugged it around until it turned into their disguise.
The wealth had a weight and they lugged it around until it turned into their disguise.
